Solving a Real Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem with Time Constraints and a Variable Amount of Resources

There are notable differences between the real problems of scheduling and the theoretical patterns. This paper develops an algorithmic approach to the scheduling of aircraft maintenance, taking into account the operating conditions imposed by the maintenance company. The basic differences with regard to RCPS stem from the following factors: the variation between morning and afternoon shifts; the existence of simultaneity and incompatibility relations, other than the usual precedence constraints; and the special characteristics of two types of activities that depend on the moment of scheduling. We propose a new modified method that is based on the classical parallel algorithm and provides for these factors.
